The exploration of pictorial space takes center stage in "Playing the Angles," where stark compositions and restricted color palettes generate dimensional dynamics. Through manipulation of surface and depth, the artworks present perceptual experiences emerging gradually as viewers engage with them.
Using airbrushes, brushes, and rollers, the artist achieves sophisticated pictorial effects while maintaining smooth surfaces. His gestural marks, though clearly hand-made, possess a mechanical precision that creates visual tensions. Whisper-thin paint layers build up to create luminous effects, while deliberate drips and texture breaks remind us of the medium's physicality. The result is paradoxical - paintings that feel both meticulously engineered and hazily atmospheric.
The irregular shapes and bevelled edges of some paintings jut out from walls, asserting their presence. As viewers move around, new relationships emerge between the physical structure and the painted illusion. A golden portal appears to collapse inward in one view, then projects outward from another angle. This constant shift between the real and the perceived creates an active viewing experience where each new position offers a fresh configuration of space, light, and form. An invitation to look, and then look again.

エアブラシや刷毛、ローラーを使って、なめらかな表面に巧妙な絵画効果を作り出しています。手作業による筆致でありながら、機械のような正確さを持ち、それが視覚的な緊張感を生んでいます。とても薄い絵具の層が重なって光を放つような効果を作り出す一方で、意図的に作られたしずくや質感の変化は、絵具という素材の物質感を思い出させます。その結果、緻密に計算された作品でありながら、かすかに大気のような質感を持つという、相反する特徴を持つ絵画が生まれています。
不規則な形とベベル加工された縁を持つこれらの作品は、壁から飛び出すように設置され、存在感を主張しています。見る人が動き回ると、物理的な構造と描かれた錯覚との間に新しい関係性が生まれます。金色の空間は、ある角度では内側に沈み込んで見え、別の角度では外側に飛び出して見えます。現実とイメージの間のこの絶え間ない変化により、見る位置が変わるごとに、空間や光、形の新鮮な組み合わせを体験で きる、活気のある鑑賞体験が生まれるのです。
