Generally speaking, an "asylum" is called a "sanctuary," a "free area," a "refuge," or a "no-frills place. Other times, it was said to refer to a sacred place or temple where people in need of protection (i.e., criminals, debtors, slaves, etc.) would flee to, but it is said to have been lost with the establishment of the law. In this exhibition, we will be looking at forms that have taken on a religious character and in the self, it finds a firmness and opens up possibilities in the imagination.
