Thomas Gillant's abstract work engages with the perception of pictorial space.
Through layered sprayings of coordinated oil colors and gestural marks made with brushes and rollers, he builds surfaces that remain physically flat while producing an ambiguous sense of depth.
The paintings oscillate between tactility and flatness, holding spatial illusion in tension with the physical presence of the artwork.
トーマス・ジラントの抽象作品は、絵の中の空間がどのように見えるかに関わっています。
油絵具をスプレーで何層にも重ね、色を組み合わせながら、筆やローラーによる動きのある跡も使っています。絵の表面は平らなのに、あいまいな空間があるように見えます。絵は、ふれられそうな感じと、平らな感じのあいだをいったりきたりします。
目に見える奥行きと、作品そのものの物としての存在が、同時に感じられるようになっています。
